EFFICIENCY OF THE MANUAL THERAPY TECHNIQUES IN THE SEVERE IDIOPATHIC SCOLIOSIS – THE POSTOPERATIVE STAGE
Abstract
The research was carried out on a group of 6 patients, with the clinical diagnostic of
operated idiopathic scoliosis. 3 of the patients made up the experimental group which was
subjected to manual therapy techniques and followed a physical therapy programme, and the
other 3 made up the witness group, which followed only physical therapy treatment. During
the experimental activity we have conducted, we have measured: the intensity of the pain felt
by the patient while palpating the lumbar paravertebral muscles, the intensity of the pain felt
by the patient while palpating the lumbar interspinous ligament, the sacral-iliac joints and the
buttock muscles (the piriform muscle, the great buttock muscle) massaged during the manual
therapy sessions and the intensity of the pain felt by the patient on lumbar level during the
daily activities. The application of the manual therapy techniques have significantly
influenced the lumbar pain of the patients suffering from severe idiopathic scoliosis –
postoperative stage.
