Abstract

Sport performance in handball requires a cumulative amount of individual and collective factors that contribute to achieve the goals. The aim of this study is to contribute to the theory of the somatic model of top team handball players. The basic working method is a retrospective and descriptive analysis of the anthropometric indices of the players that participated in handball top competitions (European Championship, World Championship, Olympic Games). The data were collected and processed on the playing posts but also on the total of the top 4 teams. The monitored and analysed indicators are: height, weight, body mass index and height -100 / weight ratio. These data are a benchmark for updating the somatic model in the top female handball players, with implications up to the level of primary selection to ensure the base of handball from which top players will be raised.
