BENEFITS OF EARLY KINESIOLOGY POSTOPERATIVE IN LOWER LIMBS TRAUMAS IN INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
Abstract
Physical therapy is an integral part of patient recovery management in the intensive care unit. The main goal of the physical therapy in this medical sector is improving the functional ability and restoring the physical and respiratory patient independence. This therapy significantly reduces the risk of serious adverse complications caused by prolonged bed immobilization. Studies have confirmed over time the benefits of the mobilization and of early physical exercises that considerably reduce the patients period stay in Intensive Care Unit reducing thus the risk of hospital infections. The purpose of this study is to show the benefits of applying immediate postoperative physical therapy for injuries of the knees operated using spinal anesthesia. The immediate mobilization in bed of patients taken in that study, after their installation in the intensive care unit, has been associated with a faster recovery of the mobility, of the affected limb functions and with a decrease of the postoperative depressive anxious syndromes appearances. There was not a decrease in the hospitalization average length of patients who received physiotherapy, but there was a decrease in the number of hospitalization days in Intensive Care Unit, compared to the group of patients treated under standard protocol.
